UKRA Announcements

UKRA AGM 2011

The UKRA AGM will be held on Saturday 17th September at the Midland Sky event hosted by Midland Rocketry.
Further details of the event along with timings will be posted shortly.

New High Altitude Launch Site

Aspirespace, SARA, and UKRA are pleased to announce a special flying event in the remote Highlands of Scotland. The event, which may become an annual fixture if all goes well, is specifically for rocket flights to very high altitudes and will be held in May 2012. Discussions with the Civil Aviation Authority and Ministry Of Defence are proceeding positively and may lead to us being allowed to make flights up to 25 Km / 80,000ft if conditions are right.

Post Survey Analysis and the Future.

UKRA has had a very difficult time of late, so we felt that it was very important for us to announce actions not empty promises. For this reason, we have been very busy behind the scenes.

We had a 35% response rate on the survey and after analysing all the results, the council has thought long and hard about how to proceed with members desires.
Whilst we acknowledge that there are quite a few issues that require attention, we wanted to concentrate on the ones that the members felt their "Top 5" priorities to be.
With this in mind, the council will focus its effort to deliver the following
priority list -

1. Insurance
2. Safety
3. Legal Guidance
4. Membership Management
5. National Event

The survey has been very useful. However, we wanted to respond not only with the results but also positive news on what we have been doing about them.

We have two working parties meeting over the weekend to continue working on these issues and will make a further announcement before Christmas.

All the best,

Charles Simpson
(UKRA Council)

Post Incident Analysis and Recommendations

As I’m sure many of you may have heard, there was an incident with a recent rocket flight in Somerset where a vehicle landed outside the launch site.
As part of its duties, UKRA S&T has receive incident reports and investigated the facts and have printed a summary of the findings below along with some recommendations.

  1. All persons involved acted in a responsible manner post incident.
  2. The incident was caused by a combination of factors and no fault can be directly attributed to a single person.
  3. A reminder to all ukra members:-

UKRA Survey Results

UKRA is here to help you fly your rockets. But we mustn't forget that UKRA belongs to all its members and we all have a role in making UKRA better.

For that reason, I would like to say a big thank you to all those who responded to the UKRA membership survey.
