New High Altitude Launch Site
Aspirespace, SARA, and UKRA are pleased to announce a special flying event in the remote Highlands of Scotland. The event, which may become an annual fixture if all goes well, is specifically for rocket flights to very high altitudes and will be held in May 2012. Discussions with the Civil Aviation Authority and Ministry Of Defence are proceeding positively and may lead to us being allowed to make flights up to 25 Km / 80,000ft if conditions are right.
Although things are still at an early stage, there is a deadline of November for booking the site and associated lodge accommodation so we need to know numbers of interested attendees as soon as possible. If you are interested in attending, please email Rick Newlands (richard.newlands@virginmedia.com) as soon as possible so we can get an idea of numbers. We intend to book either the 1st or 2nd week in May, as this gives the cheapest accommodation (and has the added bonus of being before midge season).
Please note this is not a spectator-friendly event and the site is very remote (approximately 250 miles or 5 hours drive north of Glasgow). We are, of course, at the mercy of weather and refunds on accommodation may be impossible to obtain. However, if all goes well, this event could provide a unique opportunity for people wishing to make very high altitude HPR / amateur rocket flights in the UK.
