UKAYRoC Competition
Folks,
Can I please ask for you all to do your best to promote the UKAYRoC competition this year. We would love to have more initial teams taking part, but especially in areas where we have existing active rocketeers.
Remember it's not just schools that can take part any non rocketry youth group can also enter teams. Last year we had 1 team from the Guides and one ATC team.
To help teachers and youth group leaders I'm currently talking to all the clubs to see if they would be able to help host Youth Rocketry Introduction Sessions, this will help by giving the teacher or leader the basic rocketry information they need early in the competition.
We are still looking for mentors for this year, mentors need to be CRB'ed through the Science and Engineering Ambassadors programme but if you are interested let me know and I can let you know how this can be done.
For this years UKAYRoC competitions the teams have to design, construct and successfully launch a rocket to carry one raw medium size hen’s egg to an altitude of 750 feet with a flight time of 45 seconds. The external diameter of the rocket at the point where the egg is placed must be no less than 59 millimetres. The egg must be placed in the rocket “on its back” with its long axis perpendicular to the rocket’s intended direction of flight mimicking the position of an astronaut.
The team must be able to prove/demonstrate the orientation of the egg inside the rocket. In addition to the prize of a trip to the USA to attend the USA finals of TARC as Innovation is important in this competition a prize will be given for the most innovative method of proving the orientation of the egg.
If you have any questions or ideas on how to help us with this please contact me.
Thanks
Cath
p.s. what do you think of this years challenge? tough?
